Armenian parliament approves procedure for autopsy of persons died from coronavirus
YEREVAN, March 31. /ARKA/. The Armenian parliament has approved today in the second and final reading a bill to amend the law on medical assistance and public services.

According to the bill, no autopsy will be made for people died from coronavirus COVID-19. Deputy Health Minister Anahit Avanesyan said the bill provides for legal regulation of this issue.

She said the bill has been prompted by the fact that the new virus has created a tense situation across the globe, and the possibilities of its spread, as well as the duration of its activity have not been fully studied. Therefore, an autopsy can lead to unpredictable and irreversible consequences, she said.

She also noted that medical organizations dealing with autopsy in Armenia do not have the necessary conditions and do not meet the international requirements envisaged for this procedure.

The restriction does not apply to cases of premature death, doubts of relatives, accidents and others. Besides, the funeral of a patient died from coronavirus will  be held with increased security measures. In particular, the body will be placed in a special disinfected bag in a sealed coffin to exclude the possibility of infection of the funeral participants.

On March 16 the government of Armenia declared a 30-day state of emergency to stop the spread of coronavirus.  As of March 31, 532 cases of coronavirus were confirmed, 31 people recovered and three patients died. -0-
