YEREVAN, June 29. /ARKA/. Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan announced today that the country and its citizens need a restart in the fight against coronavirus.

“The failure of our citizens to observe the anti-epidemic rules has reached such proportions that  I believe that we all, everyone of us, need to restart our anti-epidemic behavior. Otherwise, we will not be able to overcome this situation," he said at a press briefing after a meeting of the government task force set up to enforce the state of emergency, declared to contain the spread of the infection.

“Each of us must understand that as a result of non-compliance with anti-epidemic rules they  can 'sentence' someone to death,” he said.

According to him, the current scale of the disease allows  to say that "everyone did something wrong, and there is a need of  restart."

"The scale of the disease is such that everyone should treat themselves and others as a virus carrier. Such behavior will allow us to overcome this situation," Pashinyan added.

The Prime Minister said that the best scenario for overcoming the pandemic would be to increase social discipline through social solidarity, as a result of which the economic crisis will also be overcome by  the best possible scenario.
Otherwise, according to Pashinyan, if a lockdown is reimposed and is not strictly respected, that would entail long-term and dangerous consequences for the country's economy.

“An effective lockdown can only be realized if each of us by their personal behavior complies with the anti-epidemic rules. And if the rules are followed, then there will be no need for a new lockdown,” he stressed.

A 30-day state of emergency to curb the spread of coronavirus was declared in Armenia on March 16 and restrictions were imposed on free movement of citizens. The government banned also some types of economic activity. On April 13, the government extended the state of emergency for another month and on May 4 it lifted the ban on almost all types of economic activity and the free movement of citizens, except for public transport. On May 14, the government has again extended the state of emergency for another 30 days.

However, despite the extension, public transport, preschools, trading centers, restaurants and gyms have reopened starting from May 18, and  wearing of masks has become  mandatory in public spaces.

On June 12, the government has extended the state of emergency for another month- until July 13.
Armenian health authorities reported 482 new cases of Covid-19 over the past 24 hours, saying their total number has grown to 25,127.

According to the Health Ministry, seven people have died from coronavirus and another four from other diseases.
It said four of the died people were women aged 63, 66, 84 and 96 and three were men aged 82 and 67. All had pre-existing health conditions. -0-
