YEREVAN, June 21. /ARKA/. Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan declined Labor and Social Affairs Minister Maneh Tandilyan’s resignation on Thursday at a regular government meeting saying Tandilyan will remain in office.

On June 12, Tandilyan submitted her resignation to the premier, since she was opposed to the law on funded pension system, which implies the mandatory component introduction on July 1, 2018. After all, the law was passed by the parliament yesterday.

Nikol Pashinyan said at today’s Cabinet meeting that he has discussed the matter with Maneh Tandilyan and she has agreed to remain in office.

“We will work together to improve the funded pension system and to create a law acceptable by all concerned parties,” Pashinyan said.

Armenia's new pension system that took force on January 1, 2014 required that all Armenian citizens born after 1973 pay social security taxes equivalent to 5 percent of their monthly wages, which was to be matched and doubled by the government.  Under the latest government-designed bill, citizens will have to pay social security taxes equivalent to 2.5% of their monthly income, down from 5%.

It is now mandatory for public sector employees only. The law is to become mandatory for private sector too starting from July 2018. -0--
