YEREVAN, December 27. /ARKA/. A new biometric system, including new biometric passports and ID cards, is planned to be introduced in Armenia, according to Armenian Minister of Internal Affairs Arpine Sargsyan.

She stated that a tender was announced as part of the collaboration between the state and the private sector. Currently, three applicants have been registered, and they are expected to submit their proposals in early 2025.

Sargsyan mentioned that the winner will be announced in the spring, and it is anticipated that the biometric system will be launched in the second half of 2026.

On August 8 of this year, the government approved a decision to issue new-format ID cards and biometric passports to Armenian citizens. At that time, Arpine Sargsyan noted that two of the three selected international companies were from Germany, and one was from France.
