YEREVAN, February 18. / ARKA /. The idea that bookselling is also a business is making first steps in Armenia, chief editor of Antares publishing house, Arkmenik Nikoghosian, said to a news conference today called to remind all that February 19 is day when people should present books to each other.
The day was first market in 2009 when Armenians marked the 140th birthday anniversary of great poet Hovhannes Tumanyan.
He said the idea is to reanimate the reading which has suffered many blows in recent years.
He said fiction books in Armenia have small print-run - from 500 to 700 copies, and the proceeds barely cover the cost of printing and advertising. He stressed that some progress has however been made.
"Authors are already beginning to work on their public image, they are active in social networks, advertising their books to win more readers ," said Nikoghosian . He said that today only children's literature brings profits. -0-
