Breast cancer cases drop in Armenia

The number of breast cancer cases detected in 2017 decreased when compared to the previous years, the director of the Armenian-American Health Center Khachanush Hakobyan said at a news conference on Tuesday.

YEREVAN, January 9. /ARKA/. The number of breast cancer cases detected in 2017 decreased when compared to the previous years, the director of the Armenian-American Health Center Khachanush Hakobyan said at a news conference on Tuesday. According to her, in 2017, breast cancer was detected in every 26th woman, while in 2015 it was detected in every 16th and in 2016 in every 20th women.

"This means that women in Armenia began paying more attention to their health and are more often examined," Hakobyan added.

She noted that in 2017, 45,810 patients underwent  screening at the Armenian-American Health Center, up from only about 1,000 visitors annually several years ago.

Hakobyan urged women to visit the doctor more often, since the best and effective treatment for cancer is its prevention.

"In 2017, 20 231 patients underwent a breast examination at the Armenian-American Health Center, 800 of them had cancer. Also 122 men were examined center, five of them had breast cancer too," she said. -0-
