Civil Contract party not to form bloc to run for Yerevan mayor's office

YEREVAN, June 28. /ARKA/. The ruling Civil Contract party of Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan will not form a bloc with any other party to participate in the upcoming Yerevan mayoral elections.

This decision was made on Tuesday at a meeting of the party's board chaired by Nikol Pashinyan, the party's FB page reported.

The mayoral election is scheduled to be held in September this year. The mayor's seat has been vacant after former mayor Hrachya Sargsyan resigned on March 17 of this year. First Deputy Mayor Levon Hovhannisyan has taken over his duties.

An extraordinary session of the Council of Elders on April 11 failed to elect a new mayor after Sargsyan’s resignation due to the lack of quorum.

A week before that the ruling My Step faction said they would not nominate a candidate for mayoral post and would not participate in the extraordinary mayoral election. -0-
