YEREVAN, April 1. /ARKA/. Projections of crop damage from the recent frost are premature, Armenia’s ministry of agriculture reported.
Gusty winds and a temperature drop of 10-12 degrees accompanied the Sunday March 30 heavy snowfall across Armenia. The snow cover was as thick as about 30-40 centimeters in Yerevan. The unfavorable weather conditions led to electricity failures.
A group of specialists from the ministry is looking into the situation and will soon provide official information about preliminary damage estimates. Freezing weather is still possible the next two nights, according to the report.
The ministry of agriculture urged farmers not to panic and continue their efforts, particularly protection of crops under cellophane in greenhouses. –0--
