YEREVAN, January 15. /ARKA/. Around 670 people are now being treated in Armenia’s hospitals for flue and acute respiratory disease, where 96% are children at the age below 4, Ara Asoyan, the chief infectious disease specialist at the Armenian healthcare ministry, said on Monday.

“Adult people catch the flu and other infectious respiratory diseases as well, but they stay at home and don’t call doctors, while when children are immediately taken to hospitals,” he said.

Asoyan said that the flu became widespread because of season factors and frequent contacts among people.

In his words, although the number of patients has grown over the last weeks, but things are not dangerous, and there is no need to close schools.

He said there are several swine flu cases in the country, but this disease is now spreading so far.

Asoyan also said that people are wrong in thinking that snow could drive the sickness rate down.

There are no scientific conclusions that snow strikes at the disease, but figures show that diseases retreat after snowfalls. --0---
