For $500 a month: officer accused of treason

YEREVAN, September 9. /ARKA/. Armenia's National Security Service (NSS) said the criminal case involving an Armenian career army officer accused of treason during the 2020 autumn war in Nagorno-Karabakh has been referred to a court.
According to the NSS press center, the Armenian officer was recruited by the enemy's intelligence service and conveyed to them secret military information for $500 a month.
The NSS said the officer while taking part in the 44-day war acted against the security and territorial integrity of Armenia.
'With a higher military education the officer who was provided with precise coordinates of enemy's military hardware and fire positions deliberately conducted non-targeted fire from the combat rocket system under his command avoiding to hit enemy's fire targets.
In addition, the accused officer collected information on military equipment, ammunition and military losses, as well as the personnel and positions of the military and passed it on to representatives of foreign intelligence services through a hidden Internet channel.
The investigation revealed that the officer had promised for a reward of $4000 to obtain a combat training plan, maps and combat orders marked as "secret", but was prevented from it by the National Security Service.
Overall, according to the NSS, in 2022 alone, eight criminal cases of treason have been referred to courts with indictments against 15 people. --0—
