Former top police officer accused of misappropriating subordinates’ money

Armenia’s Investigative Committee has launched a criminal case against a former deputy chief of Police, Lieutenant-General Levon Yeranosyan.

YEREVAN, January 18. /ARKA/. Armenia’s Investigative Committee has launched a criminal case against a former deputy chief of Police, Lieutenant-General Levon Yeranosyan. The former top police officer is accused of misappropriating part of the money provided to all police officers as social package.
The Investigation Committee said the case was launched on January 9 on the grounds of several articles of the Criminal Code. It said social packages have been provided to police officers since 2013.
The Investigative Committee said that acting on the oral instructions of Yeranosyan, in 2013-2018 some 72,000 drams (about $148) of the package, which are to be used by police officers’ for recreation services, were paid to selected travel agencies, but actually the officers were provided with 52,000 drams (about $ 107) services. The rest of the amount was misappropriated by Yeranosyan.
On January 18, the case was handed to the Special Investigation Service. -0-
