Government budget spending on healthcare sector may increase 21.7% in Armenia in 2020

The government budget spending on the healthcare sector is proposed to be increased by AMD 19.4 billion or 21.7 percent in 2020 in Armenia, compared with 2019, Armenian Finance Minister Atom Janjughazyan said Friday at the draft budget hearings at the National Assembly's committees. "At least AMD 109.1 billion is planned to be allocated for healthcare area instead of AMD 89.6 billion in 2019," he said.

The minister said that important is not only spending, but also the effectiveness of the spent financial resources. "In the process of the reformation of the area, it is necessary to do whatever is possible to ensure the constitutional right of health protection to citizens, improving the quality and enhancing the availability of free medical services, guaranteed to the population, as well as increasing birth rate and the life expectancy," Janjughazyan said.
Health Minister Arsen Torosyan added that the spending on this area makes up 5.8% of the government budget and 1.5% of the country's GDP. ($1 – AMD 476.1). -0---
