YEREVAN, December 16. /ARKA/. The head of the village of Artsvaberd in the Tavush region of Armenia has been charged with embezzlement of public funds allocated for the purchase of seeds, the press service of the Investigative Committee reported.
It said the seeds were bought by the Seeds Agency non-commercial government organization and the Ministry of Agriculture from Russia for distributing them among farmers across the country at preferential prices.
The investigation found that the Seeds Agency had provided the community with 20 tons of seeds in 2013, 78.75 tons in 2014, and 74.9 tons in 2015, which were distributed among the villagers, who were to pay for it after gathering and selling their crops in autumn.
The investigation found that the sums collected by the villagers to pay part of the cost of seeds were managed by the community head at his discretion by providing false documents to the regional administration. Thus, abusing his authority, the head of the community appropriated part of the money collected by the villagers in the amount of almost 22.5 million drams (about $47 thousand) in 2014-2015.
Based on this evidence, the head of the community has been charged on the grounds stipulated by clause 1 of part 3 of article 179 of the Criminal Code (appropriation or embezzlement of property in especially large amounts) and part 1 of article 314 (official forgery). The criminal case was sent to the prosecutor with a motion to confirm the indictment and send it to court. -- 0--
