YEREVAN, March 18. /ARKA/. There are 78 confirmed cases of coronavirus infection in Armenia, Armenian Health Minister Arsen Torosyan said Tuesday night in a live broadcast on his Facebook page. “According to the latest confirmed data, we have six more confirmed cases that are related to the case at the factory. Thus, the total number of confirmed cases today is 78,” he said.
Torosyan recalled that 18 of these cases were identified among isolated individuals, according to the results of examinations.
“This can not even be considered a test, because if we had not examined them, perhaps on the 14th day of quarantine the virus would not have been detected at all. Perhaps many citizens were infected, cured, and did not even know about it,” he said, adding that only two had pneumonia, which may already have passed, and the vast majority either had no temperature at all, or it was very low.
In this regard, he explained that 95% of patients have no symptoms at all.
“That is, they had a temperature, they came into contact with a patient with a confirmed diagnosis or arrived from a country where the disease is common, but this temperature, showing the onset of the disease, disappeared, and they have no temperature,” he explained.
According to Torosyan, the main purpose of isolation is to break the chain of infection.
In this regard, the minister said that by the end of the day the number of isolated people will reach 600, and perhaps a few hundred more will be isolated, and after that, most likely, the principle or institution of self-isolation will be applied. He also recalled his personal responsibility.
“I’m not very glad that in such a situation we make such calls, but this is a good reason to observe the principles of personal hygiene, maintaining a distance in contacts. There are always respiratory infections in all seasons, especially in the winter, and it is advisable not to get infected with them,” he said.
The minister said that along with the development of cases, it will be clear how to most effectively deal with coronavrus taking into account local and international experience.
He added that in parallel with the growth of confirmed cases, they will be analyzed in all their aspects, including their severity, age of the infected and indications for treatment.
“You can be sure that everything that is done is done very transparently and there are no tendencies to conceal anything,” he summed up.
