More than 200 buses to replenish Yerevan's public transportation fleet

YEREVAN, November 6. /ARKA/. The Yerevan Municipality will acquire more than 200 buses, the acting head of Yerevan Transportation Department Vazgen Harutyunyan said at a meeting in the City Hall on Monday.
He said the first batch of 30 new buses is expected to arrive in January or February next year.
Mayor Tigran Avinyan said the municipality will not buy 8.6 meter-long electric buses, (as announced earlier) arguing that ‘excessive diversification of the bus fleet of the capital city may lead to problems.’
‘Therefore, the rest 171 buses will be of the same type bought earlier and more affordable, at the same price. At the next stage when acquiring 18-meter buses, we will discuss the option of electric buses only," he said.
In turn, Harutyunyan said that the decision to purchase 8.6-meter conventional buses instead of electric buses is justified by the fact that the latter can travel a maximum of 250 kilometers per day on one full charge
"Therefore, we considered it inexpedient to consider electric buses of this class, because otherwise the buses will have to leave the routes for recharging, which is fraught with problems," he said.
Harutyunyan noted that the 8.6-meter buses will run on natural gas. According to him, the cost of a bus is 38-39 million drams, down from 44 million drams paid earlier. ($1 - 402.22 drams). --0--
