No threat of measles epidemic in Armenia

There is no threat of measles or rubella epidemic in Armenia, but the persons who were vaccinated or received inadequate vaccination in 2007-2018 may cause the return of the disease and its local spread, the Ministry of Health said today.

YEREVAN, August 22. /ARKA/. There is no threat of measles or rubella epidemic in Armenia, but the persons who were vaccinated or received inadequate vaccination in 2007-2018 may cause the return of the disease and its local spread, the Ministry of Health said today. It said about 96% of people subject to vaccination are vaccinated against measles each year.
According to the World Health Organization, the measles continue to spread. The situation is unfavorable in a number of European countries: in the first half of this year, some 41,000 people contracted the disease. Most of the cases – 23,000 - were registered in Ukraine.
The Ministry of Health reiterated that vaccination is the only safe and effective way to prevent measles.It urged citizens traveling abroad to take into account the epidemic situation in the given country and take necessary precautionary measures in advance. -0-
