Pashinyan: Armenia can become paradise for talented people
YEREVAN, October 7. /ARKA/. Armenian Prime Miister Nikol Pashinyan, speaking Monday at the opening ceremony of the World Congress of Information Technology (WCIT 2019) in Yerevan, said that Armenia can become paradise for talented people.  "It is a great honor to us to host such a congress, since it is a good chance to talk to you and to the international community through you about the strategy of transformation of Armenia into a high-tech country," he said. "I hope, staying in Armenia for a few days, you will feel the energy and atmosphere the Velvet Revolution has formed in the country."

In his words, the Velvet Revolution has been implemented through decentralization, and as a result, Armenia has become the center of democracy on the world map. "After the political revolution we are now on the stage of the economic revolution which is going on thanks to decentralization as well, since we consider each citizen's individual work and every initiative the citizen puts into practice not on the government's instruction, but following own decisions, goals and ambitions, as the key instrument of the economic revolution," Pashinyan said.

He stressed that Armenia's economy enjoys now a 7% economic growth, and its tourism shows a considerable growth - 13%. "An impressive growth is recorded also in the export of technologic products - the average export of technological products grew 40.9% over seven months, and that of high-tech products grew 34.4%," Pashinyan said.

The mentioned facts, he said, give grounds for thinking that the economic revolution, which is going on in Armenia now, will make its own contribution to a technology revolution, and "we will manage to develop Armenia into one of the flagship and technological countries in the world, into a real technology center".

"We find this goal achievable and realistic, since many sons of Armenian people are inventors of numerous well-known innovations," the premier said.
Remembering that the first computer in the Soviet Union had been created in Armenia, that many Armenians had taken part in the Soviet Union and the United States' space programs and that today Armenians demonstrate significant achievements in IT industry, Pashinyan said that these facts give grounds for thinking that Armenia will become one of the most important technological hubs, centers in the world.

He stressed that companies enjoy tax preferences in Armenia. "They are exempted from income tax and they pay only 10% of their profits," the prime minister said. "As a result, our county's IT industry has grown five times and demonstrates 20 to 25 percent growth every year."

Pahinyan said that there is also the problem of modernization of the education system at all levels. He said education should become a lifestyle in Armenia, and people in Armenia should never stop learning. "We believe we can transform Armenia into paradise for talented people," Nikol Pasinyan said.

This year's WCIT is taking place under the Armenian government's patronage under the slogan "The Power of Decentralization. Promise and Peril." Positive and adverse impacts of information and communication technologies on life will be discussed at the conference. It will also discussed how they impact profits and welfare, reliability and security, democracy and humanism.

Over 2,500 people from 70 countries are expected to attend the forum. These are the world's leaders and heads of flagship companies in ICT industry, investors, entrepreneurs, scientists, politicians, state officials. WCIT 2019 is a unique chance for Armenia to show the Armenian talent to the world and the country's capacity in the science and technology areas. -0---
