Pashinyan explains cause of spirit shortage
YEREVAN, March 18. /ARKA/. Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan spoke Wednesday in a live broadcast on his Facebook page about a shortage of alcoholic gels, medical spirit and masks in pharmacies. He has toured pharmacies yesterday.

“During yesterday’s tour of pharmacies, we saw that there is a shortage of alcohol gels and spirit and in pharmacies. Today I found out that 11 thousand liters of spirit are produced in Armenia every day, about half of which goes to the production of alcoholic gels. The fact that there are pharmacies that don’t have alcoholic gels indicates that we faced panic purchases," Pashinyan said.

He noted that production and sales data show that there are large reserves of spirits in the homes of citizens.

"We have local producers and production facilities are operating at their full capacity. In fact, we can say that this is a shortage due to panic. In total, three entrepreneurs are engaged in production, there is information that a fourth will join them soon. So there is no shortage of spirit in the country," Pashinyan said.

The premier also said that problems may arise when buying in downtown Yerevan, but spirit is available in other areas.

According to the latest reports, there are 78 confirmed cases of coronavirus infection in Armenia.
The first case of coronavirus infection in Armenia was confirmed on March 1. The patient has already recovered and let out from the hospital. Among those infected are Armenian citizens from Iran and Italy (residents of Yerevan, Echmiadzin, Meghri and Charentsavan), people in contact with them, as well as one Italian citizen and a visitor from France. The vast majority of those infected, including one schoolchild, are residents of Echmiadzin.

On March 16, the government of Armenia declared a 30-day state of emergency to prevent the spread of coronavirus. -0---
