Pashinyan: no government official can be above the law
YEREVAN, November 29. /ARKA/. Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan stated today that no government official can be above the law, saying this is a fundamental institutional change that should be implemented in the near future.

Pashinyan made the statement when addressing a meeting dedicated to the  12th anniversary of the Special Investigation Service.

The Special Investigation Service is a body that investigates crimes and offences committed by high-ranking officials. "Of course, according to the legislation of the Republic of Armenia and in its essence, the Special Investigation Service is an independent body, but it should be noted, however, that the country's political context and the atmosphere are very important for the functioning of this body, since  institutional independence by itself  does not and cannot mean independence from the environment," Pashinyan said.

He added that it is impossible to build law, independence and justice in a separate body.

"I believe and am convinced that today the best possible conditions have been created for the Special Investigation Service or, more precisely, for the investigation of crimes committed by high-ranking officials, at least in the history of the Third Republic we never had better conditions," said Pashinyan , noting that he did not mean the crimes committed by former officials.

"The fact that the head of the Special Investigation Service has voiced here is sensational. If I understood correctly, he said that in one year of operation, the Special Investigation Service has recovered seven times more damage caused to the state than in the previous 11 years," said Pashinyan.  -0-
