Police to cut part of central apparatus personnel

Speaking today at a parliamentary discussion on the execution of 2015 budget, deputy chief of Armenian Police, Vardan Yeghiazaryan, said the agency is gearing up for personnel cuts starting from June 1.

YEREVAN, May 23. /ARKA/. . Speaking today at a parliamentary discussion on the execution of 2015 budget, deputy chief of Armenian Police, Vardan Yeghiazaryan, said the agency is gearing up for personnel cuts starting from June 1.
Speaking at a Cabinet session last week, Prime Minister Hovik Abrahamyan said the government will streamline its expenditures, step up the fight against corruption and improve the domestic business environment in response to “new challenges” emanating from the unresolved Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.
He also said the government will decommission about 800 cars used by senior government officials and heads of government agencies.
According to the deputy chief of police, since 2012 some 218 jobs have been cut in the police, the greater party in the central apparatus of Police. He said the upcoming personnel cut will affect in the first place the central apparatus, which according to various estimates is inflated.
He noted that one of the main tasks of the police in the future is to create a positive image of the police officer. To achieve this, special classes are being conducted to help them improve their legal knowledge as well as appearance.
At the same time the deputy chief of police said that in 2015, some 1,584 internal investigations were initiated against police officers. As a result 920 disciplinary penalties were imposed, 31 criminal proceedings were started against 41 persons, 12 of whom have been already convicted.-0-
