SCR reconstructs children’s railway in Yerevan

South Caucasus Railway (SCR) company said Wednesday it is restoring the Children’s Railway in Yerevan.

YEREVAN, August 1. /ARKA/. South Caucasus Railway (SCR) company said Wednesday it is restoring the Children’s Railway in Yerevan.
“Thus CJSC SCR as a socially-oriented company has taken the responsibility for providing safe and comfortable leisure as well as for restoring such a popular animation area for children,” according to the source.
Reconstruction is another way to support the urban infrastructure development of Armenian capital within the socio-economic cooperation agreement signed between SCR and Yerevan Municipality in 2011.
Reconstruction of the Children’s Railway is conducted in two phases. At the first stage the workers will restore and modernize the station units, rolling stock and tracks to ensure safety.
SCR specialists repaired diesel and engine locomotives, as well as three summer cars of the Children’s Railway. They also repaired 1.2 km segment of the CR and improved nearby areas.
The first stage of reconstruction will be completed by Rail Worker Day on August 5.
The second stage implies the restoration of the railway station. Currently it is planned to establish a children’s educational center where they can learn the general railway professions, technologies for transportation processes, etc.
Children’s Railway opened in Yerevan on June 9, 1937. It has two stations - Hayrenik (Motherland) and Pionerakan (Pioneer) and a platform Urakhutyun (Joy). A tunnel of 45 meters long is also located on the Children Railway.
South Caucasus Railways, a 100-percent subsidiary of Russian Railways, runs Armenian Railway.
Armenian Railways was handed over to the South Caucasus Railways on February 13, 2008 for 30-year concession management with a right to prolong the management term for other 10 years.-0-
