YEREVAN, January 18. / ARKA /. Two more people have died in Armenia today from H1N1 virus subtype (swine flu), despite the doctors' ten-day efforts to save their lives, the ministry of health reported. The latest deaths have raised the death toll from the disease to 16.

Both patients had been admitted to medical centers with bilateral pneumonia on January 9 in critical condition, and one of them was also diagnosed with severe cardiopulmonary failure, the ministry said.

The ministry of health says about 450-500 deaths from pneumonia were reported each year over the past six years – from 2009 to 2014 and most of these cases were recorded in winter season being due to the intensification of the seasonal flu.

"This year, thanks to numerous warnings of the ministry of health the people's vigilance has increased and over the past few days the number of people seeking medical help in the earlier period of the disease has surged. The ministry is closely watching the situation given the fact that flu is often accompanied by complications in the form of heavy pneumonia,' the agency said.

As of January 18, seven patients, diagnosed with pneumonia were in critical condition. Doctors continue to fight for their lives.

The ministry said today also that about 700 people were released from Armenian hospitals over the past five days after recovering from acute respiratory diseases, including 592 children and youngsters below 18. -0-
