Unemployment in Armenia in Q3 2024 rose to 13.3% from 12% a year earlier - WB

YEREVAN, February 24. /ARKA/. In the third quarter of 2024, Armenia's unemployment rate rose to 13.3% from 12% registered in the third quarter of 2023, according to the World Bank's “Armenia Monthly Economic Update - February 2025”.
The survey notes that the rise was contributed by higher unemployment in rural areas.
The Armenian government in late December 2024 approved the Employment Strategy for 2025-2031, the main goal of which is to fight unemployment.
According to Minister of Labor and Social Affairs Narek Mkrtchyan, research shows that part of the potentially employable population is uncompetitive and does not have the level of skills needed to meet the demands of the modern labor market.
The target group of the strategy is the residents of regional cities, non-student and non-working youth, women aged 30-39, as well as recipients of family and social benefits.
Babken Tunyan, deputy chairman of the parliamentary standing committee on economic affairs from the ruling Civil Contract party, said earlier that the authorities plan to reduce the unemployment rate to less than 10%. -0-
