YEREVAN, July 17. /ARKA/. Appearance of a vaccine against coronavirus in Armenia is very unlikely before the end of the year, Gayane Sahakyan, deputy director general of the Armenian health ministry’s Center for Disease Control and Prevention and head of the national immunization program, said Friday at a news conference.

“Today, the demand [for vaccines and vaccinations against the coronavirus - ed.] is quite high all over the world, and to say that Armenia will directly acquire and import it by the end of the year is, frankly, not correct. This is a rather complicated process, we are negotiating both with manufacturers and with global organizations, but in any case there is very little hope that we will get the vaccine in time and import it into the country," she said.

Earlier, Minister of Health Arsen Torosyan said that Armenia is negotiating over the purchase of potential vaccines directly from manufacturers or large wholesale buyers.

In Russia, the State Research Center of Virology and Biotechnology "Vector" of Rospotrebnadzor has successfully completed preclinical studies of the coronavirus vaccine.

In early July, the Director-General of the World Health Organization (WHO), Tedros Adan Gebreyesus, said that the coronavirus vaccines and therapeutics created in the world should be available to the entire population of the planet. At the same time, the head of WHO refrained from forecasts regarding the possible timelines for the development of the vaccine.

According to the latest report, released on Friday, July 17, there are 34,001 confirmed COVID-19 infection cases, 620 deaths, 22,492 recovered patients in Armenia. -0-
