Yerevan identifies categories of citizens who will receive benefits for paying garbage removal
YEREVAN, April 22. /ARKA/. On Tuesday, the Yerevan Council of Elders decided at its regular meeting to provide benefits for garbage collection fees in the capital.
During the meeting, Acting Head of the Yerevan Municipality Accounting and Revenue Collection Department David Hakobyan recalled that the methodology for calculating garbage collection fees in residential buildings and structures was approved by the Council on December 24, 2024.
"Now it is proposed to establish benefits for certain categories of citizens in order to mitigate the additional financial burden that has arisen for some taxpayers," he noted.
According to him, it is proposed to zero out the garbage fee (provide a 100% benefit - ed.) for owners of housing belonging to family members of those killed, missing during the Artsakh wars and military operations to defend Armenia.
"The benefit is also provided to military personnel with a severe or profound degree of limitation of functionality, or with I or II disability groups, as well as single non-working pensioners and owners of residential properties in which electricity consumption is less than 10 kWh per month," Hakobyan said.
As he reported, the changes also concern the parameters of living space. "Since the average area of an apartment in Yerevan is about 70 square meters, it is proposed to provide a 50% benefit for each square meter exceeding 65 square meters for apartment buildings. m, for private houses - a 75% discount for each square meter exceeding 75 sq.m, for detached garages and buildings - a 100% discount,” Hakobyan noted.
On increasing the fee for garbage
The new procedure for calculating the fee for garbage removal for individuals, which came into force in Yerevan in 2025, provides for an increase in tariffs from 7 to 15% (depending on the number of rooms).
Previously, the fee was calculated based on the number of residents, but since the new year, the calculation is based on the area of the apartment (house).
Thus, from 2025, residents of one-room apartments must pay, on average, 455 drams instead of 400 drams (an increase of 13.75%), two-room apartments - 689 drams instead of 600 drams (an increase of 14.8%), three-room apartments - 975 drams instead of 900 drams (an increase of 8.3%), four-room apartments - 1287 drams instead of 1200 drams (an increase of 7.25%). As for private residential buildings, the increase in payments, on average, will be 180 drams. ($1 - 390.51 drams).
