YEREVAN, September 18. /ARKA/. Mayor Tigran Avinyan announced at a government meeting on Thursday that Yerevan Metro passenger traffic will increase by approximately 25% after the opening of the 11th station, Ajapnyak.

At the request of Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, the mayor spoke about metro modernization projects. He noted that construction of the Ajapnyak station will begin in 2026.

"The Ajapnyak station construction project has already been completed and has successfully passed all necessary assessments. We have divided it into three stages: construction of a tunnel from the Barekamutyun metro station to the Hrazdan Gorge, construction of a bridge, and, finally, the section from the bridge to the tunnel leading to the station," Avinyan noted.

He also announced that tenders will be announced for all three sections, with large companies expected to participate. "As soon as the winner is selected, we will begin discussing financing," the mayor added.

Avinyan also spoke about plans to build a cable car that will connect the Yeritasardakan metro station with the Nor Nork district.

"This project is currently in the construction tender stage," he stated.

Prime Minister Pashinyan emphasized that the further development of the metro should be linked to the Academic City project.

In this context, the construction of the Ajapnyak station is crucial, especially given the planned extension of the future Academic City station to Charbakh station, which will create a circular route along the entire line," he noted.

The Yerevan Metro was founded in 1981. Currently, it has 10 metro stations, with a total length of 13.4 km. The metro's weekly passenger flow averages between 515,000 and 520,000 people.-0-
