Armenia jointly with Korea and ADB to implement $300,000 “green urban development” project

YEREVAN, March 7. /ARKA/. Armenia will receive a $300,000 grant for the implementation of “Green Urban Planning in Armenia: Development of Energy Efficiency in Buildings” project.
The relevant memorandum of understanding was signed between the Armenian Urban Planning Committee, the Asian Development Bank and the Ministry of Economy and Finance of the Republic of Korea.
According to the press service of the Armenian Urban Development Committee, the grant for improving energy efficiency of buildings, constructions and buildings will be provided by Korea Eximbank (KEXIM) under the “Knowledge Transfer Program”.
Korean experts will study the field of “green urban development” in Armenia, current problems of energy efficiency in buildings and structures, identify key areas of improvement in this field and offer practical recommendations.
“This program will help introduce international experience and create a “green” urban planning environment with minimal environmental impact in the implementation of large-scale urban development projects,” stressed David Grigoryan, First Deputy Chairman of the Urban Development Committee.
ADB Resident Mission Director in Armenia Don Lambert highlighted the importance of the program in terms of energy efficiency and green building.
“We know that there are a lot of emissions in the construction industry and we intend to work together to promote energy efficient buildings in Armenia. Besides, this is quite a new field and sharing experience with Korea will be very effective,” Lambert said.
Head of the expert group, Professor Sungmyeong Sungmyeong Lin of Sangmyeong University stressed that within the framework of the knowledge transfer program, Armenia will be provided with examples of successful projects in Korea, as well as support for the development of effective policies for the development of this area.
“In addition to developing standards and transferring them to the Armenian side, we sincerely hope that the energy efficient construction sector in Armenia is progressing significantly and many Armenian developers will start to actively work on these principles both at home and abroad,” Lin concluded.-0-
