YEREVAN, April 23. /ARKA/. The Armenian Center for Isotopes Production will start soon diagnosing cancer at the early stage, Suren Papikyan, the Minister of Territorial Administration and Infrastructure, said at a government meeting on Thursday.
The Center is meant to produce radioactive isotopes necessary for the diagnosis of neoplasms and cancer treatment, building capacity for the provision of integrated radio-pharmaceutical and diagnostic services. The radio-nuclides and pharmaceuticals will be used to carry out biochemical analysis, as well as for image processing purposes. As a nationwide center for treatment and prevention of cancer with the use of modern technologies, it will provide services for nuclear diagnostics, radiation medicine, chemical therapy, in-patient and outpatient surgery.
The Cabinet decided today to release 74.972 million drams to the Center to cover the costs of equipment maintenance and preparing it for launch. The funds will be, inter alia, used to repay borrowings taken earlier.
"The Center also houses several important drug manufacturing laboratories and cancer diagnostic equipment," Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said. He recalled that the first radioisotopes were produced last year.
"If we use this Center for the diagnosis of cancer and find a model for its effective management, that will mean that a serious step taken to increase Armenia's image of scientific and healthcare center," Pashinyan said.
Minister of Health Arsen Torosyan noted that the outbreak of coronavirus has delayed its launch.
"We need to transport important hazardous material from Belgium, which we are trying to organize even in conditions of restrictions," said Torosyan.
Torosyan said the second step is a final assessment of the quality of the laboratory, which will be made remotely with international experts due to existing restrictions on flights and movement. --- 0--
