YEREVAN, March 14. /ARKA/. The government of Armenia provided today the FRV Masrik company with customs benefits for import of equipment for the construction of the Masrik-1 solar power plant in the same name village in Gegharkunik region.
The company is to invest almost 27.8 billion drams in the construction of the power plant, Avag Avanesyan, the Deputy Minister of Economic Development and Investments, said during a government meeting today.
According to him, additional 4 new jobs will be created at this state with an average salary of 590 thousand drams.
The power plant is to be built by the consortium of the Netherlands’ Fotowatio Renewable Ventures (FRV) B.V and Spain’s FSL Solar S.L. that won an international tender, announced by the government of Armenia to choose a company for building the first large photovoltaic power station.
The consortium won the tender after offering to sell power to the local grid at a price of USD 0.0419 (EUR 0.0341) per kWh. The price is lower than the AMD 23.8 (USD 0.0495/EUR 0.0404) per kWh, at which electricity from hydropower plants is sold in the country.
The 55 MW solar power plant will be located in Masrik, Gegharkunik province, eastern Armenia, and will require an investment of $50 million. The construction of the plant is to be accomplished no later than in 2020. The project is part of the national plan for the development of renewable energies and is one of six PV plants with a combined capacity of 110 MW. -0-
