YEREVAN, May 3. /ARKA/. U.S. Secretary of State Anthony Blinken and Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan signed a Memorandum of Understanding on Strategic Cooperation in the Civil Nuclear Industry on Monday following a meeting in Washington, TASS reported.
The U.S. foreign policy chief stressed that the document "opens new avenues of cooperation" between the U.S. and Armenia, and can significantly strengthen bilateral relations.
"Armenia appreciates the U.S. support for the development of Armenia's energy sector," Mirzoyan said, in turn.
According to Blinken, there was a "good exchange of views" at the State Department meeting that preceded the signing of the memorandum.
"Indeed, for the most part, the purpose of these meetings is to restart the U.S.-Armenia Strategic Dialogue, which was suspended because of COVID-19. This is a very important mechanism through which we can continue to deepen and strengthen our relations to find new areas of cooperation and interaction," he said.
Mirzoyan specified that during the final session of the Strategic Dialogue, the sides discussed reforms in Armenia, as well as cooperation in the banking sector, ways to deepen cooperation in defense, fight against corruption and other issues.
