Unblocking the region will reduce Armenia's energy risks by 40% - Deputy Prime Minister

YEREVAN, June 24. /ARKA/. From the point of view of ensuring Armenia's energy security, unblocking communications in the region is of paramount importance, said Deputy Prime Minister Mher Grigoryan.
“When talking about energy risks, we should focus on this issue, as it is the first and most important step that will neutralize 40% of these risks,” he said during a discussion organized within the framework of the EU-Armenia Civil Society Platform.
Grigoryan noted that Armenia's lack of connection to global energy transmission networks is a major challenge for the development of the energy system.
“If we are not connected, we remain within the framework of local production and consumption, which is very costly. For example, solar energy must either be consumed through a global network or stored in accumulators, which significantly affect electricity prices and create environmental problems, particularly when they are disposed of at the end of their service life,” he emphasized, according to Armenpress.
The deputy prime minister added that the efficient operation of nuclear power plants in conditions of low consumption and closed borders also creates problems in terms of both cost and safety.
“The cost is very good, but connecting and disconnecting nuclear power plants inherently requires significant resources and is subject to strict safety protocols,” Grigoryan said.
According to him, the issue of unblocking should also be brought to the attention of civil society, as it is directly related to avoiding energy risks. -0-
