US Department of Commerce blacklists two Armenian companies

The US Department of Commerce said its Bureau of Industry and Security has placed two Armenian companies in the list of companies which are subject to US sanctions.
YEREVAN, August 14. /ARKA/. The US Department of Commerce said its Bureau of Industry and Security has placed two Armenian companies in the list of companies which are subject to US sanctions.
These companies are Markel Closed Joint Stock Company (Markel CJSC) andthe Yerevan Telecommunications Research Institute (YETRI) Closed Joint Stock Company.
It said these companies along with companies from Belgium, Canada, the People’s Republic of China (China), Georgia, Hong Kong, Malaysia, the Netherlands, Russia, the United Arab Emirates (U.A.E.), and the United Kingdom (U.K.).have been determined by the U.S. Government to be acting contrary to the national security or foreign policy interests of the United States.
The US Department of Commerce said the Yerevan Telecommunications Research Institute received goods included in the “List of Trade Controls” and re-exported them without proper permission.
It said also the executive director of Markel, who also heads the Yerevan Telecommunications Research Institute, is collaborating with an Iranian company that is on the US sanctions list. The restrictions will come into force on August 14.
Novosti-Armenia news agency contacted the executive director of the Yerevan Telecommunications Research Institute Mher Markosyan, who refrained from comments, saying only that the company is preparing an official statement on this issue.
The Ministry of Economy said it is working to make clarifications in connection with this information. -0-
