YEREVAN, March 28. /ARKA/. Armenian Prime Minister Karen Karapetyan, who is on an official visit to Turkmenistan, met Tuesday with Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdymuhamedov, the press service of the Armenian government reported.

It quoted the president of Turkmenistan as saying that the Armenian-Turkmen relations are characterized by progress, adding that mutual official visits contribute to the development of relations in various directions.

Berdymuhamedov stressed that Turkmenistan is interested and attaches great importance to the implementation of mutually beneficial projects aimed at further development and strengthening of cooperation with Armenia.

"Our peoples have historically warm relations and ties. I am confident that your official visit can best contribute to the further development of our fraternal relations in various spheres of the economy - energy, transport, agriculture, engineering and industry. We have a great potential for cooperation and we are ready to discuss your proposals and ideas," he said.

Berdymuhamedov asked to convey his warm greetings to Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan.
Karapetyan thanked the President of Turkmenistan for the warm welcome and in turn conveyed the greetings of President Sargsyan.

Appreciating the level of the Armenian-Turkmen bilateral relations, the head of the Armenian government noted that cooperation in the economic sphere does not correspond to this level.

"The purpose of our visit is to discuss in detail various issues and projects of economic cooperation that will intensify our ties and increase the volume of trade," Karapetyan was quoted as saying. He expressed confidence that the friendship of the two peoples is a good basis for further development of Armenia's cooperation with Turkmenistan.

The prime minister of Armenia and the president of Turkmenistan were said to have discussed various economic issues. Karapetyan and Berdymuhamedov expressed conviction that economic cooperation could stimulate the growth of bilateral trade. The parties agreed to continue discussions in April in Yerevan on the level of working groups. -0-
