Armenian businesses not ready for another lockdown- expert says
YEREVAN, January 27. /ARKA/. Armenian businesses are not ready for another lockdown and restrictions, Vahram Mirakyan, co-founder and chairman of the Mantashov Union of Entrepreneurs, told ARKA news agency.
His remarks came after Health Minister Anahit Avanesyan reported a sharp rise in the new confirmed cases of Covid-19 to a government meeting earlier today.
"The outcome of the first lockdown in Armenia was even weaker than in other countries, partly because of the failure of some companies here to comply with the restrictions. It resulted in more deaths from the infection, but at the same time the economy was not dying as fast as it could,” he said.
However, according to Mirakyan, some lessons have been learned by Armenian entrepreneurs. "The most common approach is to switch to remote work if a new lockdown is imposed," said Mirakyan.
Armenian health officials have recorded 2,556 new cases of Covid-19 in the past 24 hours, saying the total number of confirmed cases rose to 358,218 as of Thursday morning.
According to the National Center for Disease Control and Prevention, 2 persons have died from Covid-19 during the past 24 hours. The total tally of such deaths is now 8,035.
On November 11, the government of Armenia extended the coronavirus quarantine until June 20, 2022.
The nationwide quarantine was first imposed on September 11, 2020 replacing the state of emergency that was declared on March 16 to stop the spread of coronavirus. -0-
