Catching whitefish will become more expensive: Armenia intends to raise state duties

YEREVAN, March 5. /ARKA/. Deputies of the National Assembly of Armenia approved, in the first reading, a bill amending the Tax Code, proposing to double environmental fees and triple the fee for catching whitefish.
Currently, the fee for catching whitefish is 65 drams per kilogram, while the fee for hunting or catching other species is 50 drams. The new bill proposes increasing the fee for catching whitefish to 200 drams.
As Armenian Minister of Environment Hakob Simidyan previously stated, it is currently impossible to normalize the prices of whitefish due to the existence of a black market, where there have even been instances of selling one kilogram for as little as 150 drams. According to him, measures are being taken to bring this market out of the shadows. ($1 = 393.86 drams)
