YEREVAN, May 18. /ARKA/. Armenia will host an annual congress of the World Jewellery Confederation (CIBJO) in 2016, Nika Manukova, Manager of the Meridian free economic zone projects, said Monday at a news conference.

In her words, the decision was made at this year's conference in Brazil. In 2017, the conference will be held in India and in 2018 in Australia.

«This is a good chance for Armenia to present its potential in jewelry industry, since some 1,000 guests from different countries will attend the congress,» she said.

Master classes for designers and managers and jewelry exhibitions with sales will be held as part of the event.

Manukova also said that Meridian is cooperating with the Armenian economy ministry and the Armenian Development Fund to host the event properly.

CIBJO, the World Jewellery Confederation, was founded in Paris in 1926 as BIBOA, an organization whose mission was to represent and advance the interests of the jewellery trade in Europe. It was restructured as CIBJO in 1961, with a global rather than a continental focus.

CIBJO developed its Blue Book system to advance the goal of universal standards and terminology in the jewellery industry.

Initially the first three publications were printed with different coloured covers—blue for the Gemstone Book, grey for the Diamond Book, and green for the Pearl Book.

Today, they are generally referred to as one single entity—the Blue Book, and editions also have been compiled for precious metals and gem labs.

A milestone in the history of the jewellery industry was recorded in 2006, when CIBJO became the first and only organisation in the diamond, gemstone and jewellery sectors ever to receive official consultative status with the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) of the United Nations. ---0-----
