YEREVAN, December 5. /ARKA/. For the first time a modern railway station control system has been introduced oin Armenian railway, the press service of South Caucasus Railway reported.

The system is installed in Spitak station, but will allow manage operations at several stations at once.

Currently, only Spitak and Archut stations are connected to the new control system, with Haghpat and Akhtala expected to join it by December 20. General supervision is to be carried out from Spitak.

The system will allow the staff solving technological problems, receiving, displaying and storing traffic information, tracking the rolling stock, establishing arrival and departure times, operating traffic lights, interlocking system, and etc.

On the whole, the new system will help considerably improve traffic safety, prevent risks to railroaders and raise efficiency of traffic control, says the report.

Installation of Modern IT systems is a priority for the company’s management. Automated systems are installed everywhere and the outdated equipment is replaced with optic-fiber installations to improve competitiveness of rail transport compared to motor roads.
South Caucasus Railway cjsc is a 100-percent subsidiary of Russian Railways ojsc and is operating the Armenian railways. 

Armenian railways were handed over to the South Caucasus Railway on February 13, 2008 for 30-year concession management with a right to prolong the management term for other 10 years. –0--
