Shoghakn diamond cutting company to open training center

Shoghakn, the largest Armenian diamond cutting company, is going to open a training center, the company’s director Simon Alanakyan said today during a meeting with representatives of the jewelry industry, organized at the Ministry of Economic Development and Investment.

Shoghakn, the largest Armenian diamond cutting company, is going to open a training center, the company’s director Simon Alanakyan said today during a meeting with representatives of the jewelry industry, organized at the Ministry of Economic Development and Investment.
"Armenia is one of about ten countries, where diamonds are cut. And we should once again become one of the leaders in this field, "- he said.
According to the director, once there were many diamond cutting specialists in the country , but now there is a need for young diamond cutters. He said this is why Shoghakn, supported by the Ministry and the Armenian Development Foundation, will open a training center.
‘We already have 30 students, and are ready to accept more ", - he said. "We had a special place in the international market, and today must regain our place. We have all the opportunities for development of this industry ", - he said.
According to official data, diamond production in Armenia increased by 39.1% in 2015 to 14.58 billion drams ($30.4 million.). In the first ten months of 2016 it doubled to 24 billion drams ($50 million.). In the first six months of 2016 the export of polished Armenian diamonds amounted to 69,500 carats, a 2.3 times increase from the same time span of 2015.
Shoghakn now accounts for 35% of Armenia’s cut diamonds. One of the major suppliers of diamonds is Israel. Since 2000 Shoghakn is owned by a prominent businessman Lev Leviev (LLD Diamonds). - 0--
