YEREVAN, June 27. /ARKA/. Report on “Economic research of forest and woodworking sphere in Armenia” was presented in Yerevan on Wednesday.

Chairman of “Forests of Armenia” NGO, co-founder of the Alliance “Eco-Armenia” Jeffrey Tufenkian said that the report reflects the results of the economic research of Armenia’s forest and woodworking spheres, as well as some aspects of shadow economy.

He said that the main issue of “Eco-Armenia” is to make a transition from tree cutting to planting.

“By our research we want to involve Armenia’s Government, civil society and international structures to solve this issue by joint efforts,” he said.

Tufenkian thanked the Research Center “Economy and values” and Great Britain’s Embassy in Armenia for financial and moral support, as well as the OSCE Yerevan office for participation in the decision making.

“We hope that our cooperation will help solve this problem,” Tufenkian added. The report on “Economic research of forest and woodworking sphere in Armenia” was prepared by the Research Center “Economy and values” on the initiative of the Alliance “Eco-Armenia”, the OSCE Yerevan office and Great Britain’s Embassy in Armenia.

According to the report, the square of Armenia’s forestry reduced by 68ths hectares in 1993-2006, from 300ths hectares in 1993 it became 232ths in 2006. L.M. –0—
