YEREVAN, May 6. /ARКА/. According to Aram Navasardyan, who leads the Armenian representative office of GALLUP International Association, a recent public opinion survey revealed that approximately 37% of Armenians support their country's membership in the European Union.
Regarding Armenia's potential EU membership following the relevant law's passage by parliament, Navasardyan revealed at a Tuesday press conference that 20.8% of surveyed individuals expressed a somewhat positive outlook, while 16.3% held a decidedly positive view.
Conversely, 24.6% strongly opposed the idea, 12.1% leaned towards negativity, and 18.5% perceived the law as a strategic move in preparation for the 2026 summer parliamentary elections.
A telephone survey, carried out between April 29th and May 2nd, received responses from 1,101 participants.
Armenia's journey towards joining the European Union took a significant step forward on March 26, 2025, when the National Assembly gave its approval to the legislation initiating the accession process. President Vahagn Khachaturyan subsequently formalized this decision by signing the law on April 4th.
As head of the National Assembly's Committee on European Integration Arman Yegoyan stated, this bill simply expresses the will of the Armenian people, and at the moment, the submission of an application for membership in the EU is not envisaged. -0-
