Russia accounts for 60 percent of all investments in independent Armenian economy

Russia accounts for 60 percent of all investments made in the Armenian economy since its independence, Armenian prime minister Tigran Sarkisian said .
YEREVAN, October 25, /ARKA/. Russia accounts for 60 percent of all investments made in the Armenian economy  since its independence, Armenian prime minister Tigran Sarkisian said during the 12-th meeting of the Armenian-Russian intergovernmental commission in Russian Yekaterinburg last Saturday.

He said Russia is Armenia’s major economic partner and that is the reason why the Armenian side emphasizes the economic  component of the commission’s work that  facilitates further improvement of trade and economic cooperation mechanisms. He said the Armenian-Russian  cooperation has grown into complicated and multi-level structure.

The Armenian-Russian trade in the first eight months of 2010 grew by 16.3% year-on-year to $497.5 million, according to the protocol of the meeting, chaired by Tigran Sarkisian and Russian transport minister Igor Levitin.

Russian exports grew by 13.5% to $416.1 million, but according to the Armenian government data, it grew by 18.3% to $376.8 million. According to the protocol, Armenian imports grew by 32.8% to $81.4 million, but according to Armenian government data, they grew by 32.9% to $79.3  million.

The protocol says Russia was Armenia’s major trade partner in Jan.-August  2010 and that their overall trade  (including imports by country of origin) rose by 14.9% year-on-year to  $613.5 million..

According to it, since 1991 to 2010 July Russian companies invested a total of $2.838 billion in Armenia’s real economy sector (investments from government agencies and banks not counted). Last year it invested $502.9 million, including $384.8 million of direct investment, which went to energy, gas, communications and construction sectors. In the first half of this year Russia invested $116.9 million, including $85.8 million of direct investments.-0-
