YEREVAN, May 8. /ARKA/. In Armenia, the birth rate increased by 0.2% in January-March 2026, compared to January-March 2025, while the death rate decreased by 8.7%. This is according to data published by the Statistical Committee.

Birth Rate

In Armenia, a decline in the birth rate was recorded from the beginning of 2024 to January 2026, with an increase observed in February.

It is noted that 7,272 babies were born in the country in the first quarter of 2026, while 7,257 were born in the first three months of 2025. Moreover, 86 stillbirths were registered during the reporting period, unchanged from the same period in 2025.

The population viability rate—the ratio of births to deaths—was 110.6% in January-March 2026, compared to 100.8% in the same period last year.

Mortality

In the first quarter of this year, 6,574 people died in Armenia, compared to 7,199 in the same quarter last year. More than half of these deaths (53.4%, or 3,508 people) were due to circulatory diseases, an 8.9% decrease from January-February 2025.

Neoplasms are the second leading cause of death (20.5%, or 1,347 people, an increase of 4.8%). Other causes of death also included respiratory diseases (9.9% or 651 people, a decline of 16.6%), diseases of the digestive system (5.2% or 340 people, a decline of 8.1%), external causes (2.9% or 193 people, a decline of 5.4%), diseases of the endocrine system (2.1% or 141 people, a decline of 11.9%), and infectious diseases (0.8% or 51 people, a decline of 75%).
