YEREVAN, June 26. /ARKA/. The urban development concept for the Kond district of Yerevan was discussed at a meeting chaired by Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, the press service of the Armenian government reported.
Yeghiazar Vardanyan, head of the Urban Development Committee, noted that the proposed model is based on a combination of preserving the district's historical environment, economic development, and cultural revitalization.
The planned work will be aimed at preserving monuments and historical heritage, improving engineering and transport infrastructure, increasing the district's investment attractiveness, and developing tourism.
The meeting emphasized the need for urban planning regulations for the reconstruction of Kond, including changing the functional purpose of the areas, establishing architectural requirements for façades, determining the number of floors and construction parameters, as well as public investment.
Specifically, the discussion focused on the preservation and restoration of monuments, the modernization of the street network, engineering infrastructure, and street lighting, as well as the organization of entrances to the district.
Meeting participants also discussed the application of integrated approaches to the restoration and management of the district.
Pashinyan emphasized that for the successful implementation of the concept, it is necessary to develop a clear action plan taking into account urban, social, and economic factors.
In November 2023, it was reported that the reconstruction project for Kond, one of Yerevan's most distinctive neighborhoods, had entered the practical phase. In February 2024, at a working meeting at Yerevan City Hall, it was announced that the district would be completely expropriated for the implementation of a new urban development program.
Kond is distinguished by its unique buildings of cultural and historical value. Plans to conduct a full inventory of the district's buildings and resolve issues were previously announced.
