Yerevan hosting largest Armenian-Chinese event

Representatives of 22 Chinese companies have arrived in Armenia to take part in the largest Armenian-Chinese business forum that opened today in Yerevan.
YEREVAN, April 12, /ARKA/. Representatives of 22 Chinese companies have arrived in Armenia to take part in the largest Armenian-Chinese business forum that opened today in Yerevan. The event is organized by the Armenian Development Agency (ADA) and Armenian ministry of economy.
In an opening speech Armenian prime minister Tigran Sarkisian described the forum as a remarkable event saying the business forum is the largest ever held Armenian-Chinese gathering. He said the event is a testimony of growing relations between the two countries.
‘China and Armenia have friendly relations marked by high-level mutual political understanding and trust. With this reliable basis we can further and perfect our relationships in different areas,’ he said.
The Armenian premier cited the latest statistics saying that bilateral trade rose to $436 million in 2010 nearly doubling from the previous year.
Armenian economy minister Tigran Davtian said the business forum is an excellent platform for business people for discussing concrete projects and ways to boost Chinese-Armenian relations.
According to government data, Armenian-Chinese trade in 2010 soared by 44.% to $436.7 million. Armenian exports rose to $30.9 million while imports from China surged to $405.8 million. The bulk of Armenian exports to China is ore. Imports are more diversified including clothes, shoes, machinery, equipment, foods and chemical goods. There are 41 companies in Armenia with Chinese capital.
The Chinese government delegation is led by Li Changchun, a senior official of the Communist Party of China (CPC).
They have arrived today in Armenia at the invitation of the Republican Party of Armenia. -0-
