YEREVAN, May 12. /ARKA/. The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) remains firmly committed to a long-term partnership with Armenia, said Elisabetta Falcetti, the bank's Executive Director for Turkey and the Caucasus.
"We have supported the country through periods of difficulty and uncertainty, and today we see Armenia as a resilient and forward-looking economy with a strong and dynamic private sector and a key role in developing regional connectivity," she said in an interview with ARKA news agency.
According to Falcetti, the EBRD values its constructive engagement with the Armenian authorities, particularly in advancing reforms to support investment, enhance competitiveness, and promote inclusive growth.
"A predictable regulatory environment and strong institutions remain essential for supporting economic growth and attracting investment," she explained.
The EBRD Managing Director also assured the Armenian business community of continued partnership.
"Armenian entrepreneurs, particularly small and medium-sized businesses, have demonstrated exceptional adaptability, innovation, and export focus. The EBRD will continue to support businesses in expanding, modernizing, transitioning to a green economy, and entering new markets, thereby ensuring broad-based and long-term growth," she emphasized.
Responding to a question about how EBRD initiatives in Armenia are transforming the business environment, Falcetti said that systemic results are being achieved in several areas.
Regarding the financial sector, she noted that the EBRD's collaboration with partner banks has facilitated the expansion of lending, the introduction of risk-sharing instruments, the growth of green finance, and support for local currency financing, which has reduced vulnerability to external shocks.
In the context of infrastructure, Falchetti noted that projects such as the Sisian-Kajaran road and customs and logistics hubs in Yerevan and the Syunik region are transforming trade and logistics links, reducing costs, and facilitating Armenia's more effective integration into regional value chains.
In terms of market and institutional development, the EBRD Executive Director noted that policy collaboration with the Central Bank has helped strengthen regulation of derivatives and repo transactions, while capital market support programs are helping companies prepare for bond and equity issuance.
"Taken together, these efforts are helping Armenia move from targeted measures to structural transformation of the economy as a whole," she concluded.
The EBRD is one of the leading institutional investors in Armenia. To date, its financing has exceeded €3 billion through 245 projects, with over 85% of the funds directed to the private sector.
