Armenia and Iran plan to establish a "Simplified Customs Corridor"

At a meeting on Thursday, the Armenian government approved a proposal to sign a protocol with Iran on the exchange of preliminary information on goods and vehicles within the framework of the "Simplified Customs Corridor" mechanism.
YEREVAN, September 3. /ARKA/. At a meeting on Thursday, the Armenian government approved a proposal to sign a protocol with Iran on the exchange of preliminary information on goods and vehicles within the framework of the "Simplified Customs Corridor" mechanism.
According to the draft, before importing goods and vehicles into the territory of the other country, the parties will electronically exchange information on goods, vehicles, and participants in foreign economic activity, including carriers and their employees.
The mechanism is planned to apply to foreign trade participants with a low risk of violating customs legislation. The envisaged simplifications will apply to all types of goods and vehicles, with the exception of vehicles for personal use.
The purpose of the corridor is to create more favorable conditions for bona fide foreign trade participants, expedite customs control and clearance, and reduce the number of required documents and the scope of customs control through the use of a risk management system.
As noted in the project's justification, the implementation of this mechanism will reduce the time it takes to release goods and reduce border waiting times. For the Simplified Customs Corridor to be fully operational, the modernization of the Meghri border crossing point must be completed, including the construction of necessary facilities, infrastructure development, and the installation of technical equipment.
