International tender announced in Armenia for construction of Kajaran tunnel

An international tender for the construction of the Kajaran tunnel in the Syunik region in the south of the country has been announced in Armenia, the Road Department Foundation of the Armenian Ministry of Territorial Administration and Infrastructure reports.

YEREVAN, April 24. /ARKA/. An international tender for the construction of the Kajaran tunnel in the Syunik region in the south of the country has been announced in Armenia, the Road Department Foundation of the Armenian Ministry of Territorial Administration and Infrastructure reports.
It is noted that the tender for the construction of the Kajaran tunnel, about 7 km long, and the reconstruction of access roads to it, about 4 km long, has been announced within the framework of Tranche 4 of the International North-South Transport Corridor. The deadline for submitting applications is July 22, 2025.
Earlier, it was reported that the Armenian government approved a loan agreement with the Eurasian Fund for Stabilization and Development (EFSD) in the amount of $200 million for the construction of the Kajaran automobile tunnel. The loan will be serviced in US dollars, the interest rate is 4%. The repayment period is 20 years, with a 5-year grace period.
The use of the tunnel will reduce the time it takes to travel this section of the road corridor by 50% and increase the average speed from 50 km/h to 80 km/h. The construction work will take about 6 years.
The North-South International Transport Corridor is one of the largest projects in the history of independent Armenia. The road will reduce the distance from the Iranian border to the Georgian border from 556 to 490 kilometers and will significantly facilitate access to the Black Sea for Armenia.
