Pashinyan: Armenia's economy shows first signs of post-crisis recovery

YEREVAN, February 18. /ARKA/.Armenia's economy is showing the first signs of post-crisis recovery, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan told a Cabinet session today, citing the official numbers of the first 15 days of February.

According to him, the number of transactions registered by cash registers and that of settlements documents surged by 604,000 compared to the first 15 days of February in 2020.

“Our main problem was a significant drop in consumption. Now we can hope that consumption will be restored, which is a good prerequisite for development,” Pashinyan said.

Pashinyan added that the trade turnover in the first 15 days of 2021 February increased by 12% or about 31.4 billion drams compared to the first 15 days of February last year.

He recalled that in the first days of February last year, there were no cases of confirmed coronavirus and there were no economy restrictions.

Exports and imports also increased significantly in the first 15 days of February, 2021. "The implication is that the economy seems to be entering a phase of recovery, and of course, this is very important news," Pashinyan said.

State Revenue Committee chairman Edward Hovhannisyan clarified that the 31.4 billion dram growth resulted from increased retail consumption, production and provision of services.

Economy Minister Vahan Kerobyan warned that "We have to be careful about the growth of consumption, because, for example, many weddings have been postponed and now the accumulated debts are being repaid." We must continue to support the economy until we are confident that we are in a stable position."

According to the State Revenue Committee, some 20.2 million cash register receipts and tax and other invoices were printed from February 1 to February 15, 2021 worth 259 billion drams, by 604,400 or 3% more from the same period of time in 2020. ($1 - 524.33 drams). --0--
