The orchard has a drip irrigation system, and anti-hail nets will be installed later.
The minister praised the implementation of the only pecan production program in Armenia.
General manager of Gardenia Lebanese Farms L.L.C. Nicolas Abou Fayssal, in turn, said Armenia would find its niche among pecan producing countries within some six years. He also said the profit from the production would remain in Armenia.
Gardenia Lebanese Farms L.L.C. is one of the biggest food producing companies in the region. Its products are exported to some 43 countries. Gardenia Grain D’Or brain is a leader in the Middle East.
Pecan nuts are the product of the hickory tree, also known as Carya illinoinensis. The trees are native to Central and Southern North America, and were utilized as a food source by Native Americans for centuries before the arrival of European colonists. The pecan tree is a large deciduous tree, growing to 20–40 m (66–131 ft) in height. The trees can live and produce nuts for hundreds of years, if they are in a favorably temperate climate and they are well cared for. –0--
