YEREVAN, July 24. /ARKA/. The United States is imposing additional import duties on goods from 60 economies due to the absence or insufficiently effective enforcement of a ban on the import of products produced using forced labor.

According to the Office of the U.S. Trade Representative (USTR), the decision was made by Trade Representative Jamison Greer, at the direction of President Donald Trump, under Section 301 of the Trade Act of 1974.

Depending on the trading partner, the rates are 10% or 12.5%. For certain goods from the European Union and Taiwan, the combined rate, taking into account the current customs tariff, will be increased to 10%, and for products from Japan, South Korea, and Switzerland, it will be increased to 12.5%.

The USTR assesses that the absence or insufficiently effective enforcement of import bans on goods produced using forced labor creates a burden or restriction on US trade.

Investigations into 60 economies were initiated on March 12, 2026. According to the USTR's final report, the agency held two rounds of public hearings, received over 2,100 comments, and consulted with more than 45 governments.

According to the list published by the US administration, Armenia is not among the economies targeted by tariffs.
